PERSONALITY;
Chiana's a tough cookie who will use her wiles to get whatever she wants. She can "kick, kiss and cry" her way out of anything. She hates rules and regulations, and ignores them whenever she can. She gives herself readily to the pursuit of fun and pleasure, and she's likely to walk away with anything she can hide on her that's not firmly bolted down.
She's sarcastic, often abrasive and abusive, swears like she was born to it and would very possibly sell all her colleagues down the river if the offer was right. However, once she considers you friends, she does become decidedly more loyal. It's not always unquestioning, though. She definitely wants to protect her own arse before most others'.
Sexually, she's bisexual with a slight preference for males. She is very definitely genetically female, although there are instances of hermaphroditism amongst Nebari. (Life is not easy for those androgynes who are found out and they are removed from their parents and from society in general. It's really hardly conformist now, is it?)
All of the above is a very apt way to describe Chiana. It's not everything about her, though. She actually has a veneer which, while tough, if scratched in the right way, can reduce her to a state of almost incapability and extreme vulnerability and it's here more than anywhere that her youth and underlying insecurity shows through. When this happens she will kick and storm and reject everything and everyone around her. She does come round from this and, when she does, she can be somewhat clingy for a while.
In situations that are far beyond her own comfort zone, she can become very timid and submissive, adopting a habit of lowering her head and turning her chin so she's looking sideways without actually making eye contact. She calms down once she's a little more used to her surroundings, but she doesn't like being so far out of control of a situation. It makes her vulnerable and that's a no-no.
She needs people. She thrives best in company and really doesn't like to be on her own for too long. She can keep to her quarters so long as she knows somebody is there not too far away. She could, very possibly, go mad if subjected to long-term solitary confinement. Luckily, she's adept at getting herself out of situations so that supposition has, as yet, never been tested.
She doesn't like sitting still, even in chairs, for too long, preferring to crouch on top of things instead since she can be on the move that much quicker. She will often crouch and sway with her head moving constantly in sharp, almost bird-like movements, taking in her surroundings. She does NOTHING by halves. When she's happy, she's VERY happy. When she's fighting, she fights to win. When she's having sex she is loud and enthusiastic unless she absolutely can't be for some reason. When she's unhappy, EVERYONE knows about it. When she grieves she can be in the pit of despair.
Just don't let her get bored. Bad things can happen if she gets bored.
HISTORY;
Born on Nebari Prime, a planet governed by The Establishment, where conformity is strictly enforced. Nebari are allocated their function in life and are expected to be unquestioningly obedient. Any sign of deviation or rebellion is dealt with via "mental cleansing". Not all Nebari, especially the younger ones, are happy with their lot.
Has a brother, Nerri, who is two years older than her and to whom she is devoted. They left Nebari Prime some years before, surprised at how easily they were granted exit visas. What they didn't realise was that, during the "routine physical exam" they took at the same time, they were both infected with the Nebari Contagion, a procedure that was done with neither their knowledge nor consent. This is a disease spread through sexual contact. It lies dormant but can be activated by The Establishment at any time of their choosing.
Chiana learned many of her skills while living with Nerri in the Uncharted Territories. She became an adept thief and scammer and knows the value of a wide variety of objects. She learned how to fly a Peacekeeper Prowler which is a jet fighter. She also made her own clothes and turned to prostitution to help keep herself and Nerri fed. Not all of this was done with Nerri's consent, but Chiana did whatever she thought was necessary to get what they needed or wanted.
She and Nerri both have Life Discs fitted. These are devices that are surgically placed into the upper body cavity and give a constant awareness of the continued existence of whoever has the "twin".
Nerri found out about the Nebari Contagion when a Nebari leader informed him of it. He and Chiana were given an antidote which was extremely painful. Following this, and because he knew the identity of the official who had helped him, Nerri joined the Nebari Resistance. He didn't tell Chiana this, however, since he worried for her safety and, knowing she'd join with him if he told her the truth, he instead said that he had to go on the run, but they would meet up again sometime in the future.
The Establishment are now looking for Nerri and for Chiana since two of their proposed biological weapons are now useless from that regard. Also, they consider it of great importance to uncover the Resistance and are convinced that Chiana is involved with them along with her brother.
Chiana, not surprisingly, is not quite so eager to return. After all, she's all about the FUN, and there's not much of that on Nebari Prime.
ABILITIES;
There's the whole "kick, kiss and cry" manoeuvre. She's had a fair bit of success with this since she is a highly skilled conwoman.
She can fight *points up a bit for even more emphasis*. She's a dirty fighter and will bite and scratch and gouge and generally go for the sensitive bits.
She's not scared of weaponry and, while preferring a pulse pistol, will use others, both purpose-made and improvised.
When a kill is necessary, she has no problem with it. There is no guilt afterwards so long as she can justify the action to herself.
Fortunately, she finds it very easy to justify most, if not all, of her actions to herself.
She can fly a Peacekeeper Prowler. This is no mean feat. Those babies can MOVE.
She's an incredibly good gymnast and street performer. She does fire juggling that can make grown men faint at her feet, and her general bendiness, along with her small slight stature, means she's handy for getting into places that seem impossible for many other people. She's very very bendy indeedy, yes. A handy bendy Nebari.
She can leap freakishly far, seemingly without any effort whatsoever. It looks more like she levitates herself up and along. She tends to do this during outbursts of strong emotion.
CANON POINT; Shortly after events in "DNA Mad Scientist". This actually pre-dates Chiana's first appearance in the show so certain elements of her canon history haven't happened.
